Information based on an interview aired by Antena 3 CNN and later re-shared on social media.

Residents of the Bucharest apartment building where a deadly explosion occurred claim the tragedy was preceded by a careless and unprofessional intervention from the companies involved.

According to their accounts, Distrigaz representatives were called the day before the blast after several residents reported a strong smell of gas inside the building. The team allegedly confirmed the leak and decided to shut off the gas supply, sealing the building’s main pipeline. Later, the same representatives reportedly advised residents to contact an “authorized” company to perform safety checks and reopen the gas flow.

That company was called the same afternoon, but - according to witnesses - none of the required safety inspections were performed. Members of the team allegedly stated they “were not paid to check the apartments” and that their job was "only to turn the gas back on." Instead of conducting the mandatory inspections, they allegedly broke the seal placed by Distrigaz, attempted to reopen the gas flow, then shut it off again and left, leaving the installation unsecured.

The following morning, the building was rocked by a violent explosion, resulting in deaths and multiple injuries.

The incident raises serious questions about how Distrigaz and the subcontracted firm fulfilled their legal and professional obligations. Both the superficial intervention and the failure to carry out mandatory safety checks appear to be direct contributing factors to the disaster. The ongoing investigation aims to determine to what extent these actions breached safety regulations and whether criminal responsibility exists.
